Richard Friend

Leadership: The Journey Inward

Richard Friend has committed his life — through teaching, research and consulting — to transforming organizations into places where people reach their fullest potential and collectively enable sustained success. He has worked across the globe to build workplaces where people recognize, celebrate and utilize one another’s talent; not despite the differences, but through a deep-seated appreciation for the value of our interdependence. His leadership development work urges individuals to harness their courage to inspire and mobilize others in the co-creation of workplaces, home lives and/or communities that are sustainably better — a world that works. His love for academic rigor and practical application emerges from having served on the faculty and staff of both the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education and Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College executive education programs, as well as 35-plus years of on-the-ground experience partnering with leaders in workplaces and communities throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America and Europe. He has worked in almost every sector but has a particular passion for working with those who have dedicated themselves to public service. Friend has been a faculty member of the Bowhay Institute since 2010.
